
GST Registration
GST registration is mandatory for businesses that have an annual turnover exceeding Rs. 20 lakhs (Rs. 10 lakhs for North Eastern states and hilly regions). The process of GST registration involves the following steps:
Visit the GST portal: Go to the GST portal (https://www.gst.gov.in/) and click on the 'Services' tab. Select 'Registration' and then click on 'New Registration.'
Fill in the details: Fill in the required details, including your PAN, email address, mobile number, and state. Then click on 'Proceed.'
Enter the OTP: An OTP will be sent to your email address and mobile number. Enter the OTP in the required field and click on 'Proceed.'
Temporary reference number (TRN): You will receive a temporary reference number (TRN) on your registered mobile number and email ID.
Fill in the application form: Log in to the GST portal with the TRN and fill in the application form with the required details.
Upload documents: Upload the required documents, such as proof of address, PAN card, bank details, and photographs.
Sign the application form: Sign the application form electronically using a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) or Aadhaar OTP.
Verification: After submission of the application, a GST officer will verify the application and documents.
GST registration: Upon successful verification, the GST registration certificate will be issued, and a GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number) will be allotted.
List of documents required for GST registration:
- PAN card of the applicant
- Aadhaar card/ Voter ID/ Passport/ Driving License
- Proof of business registration or Incorporation Certificate (in case of companies)
- Address proof of the business place
- Bank statement or a cancelled cheque
- Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) or Aadhaar OTP (for authentication purposes)
- Photographs of the applicant
- Letter of Authorization or board resolution for authorized signatory (in case of companies)
The time required for GST registration varies depending on the completeness and accuracy of the documents submitted. Generally, it takes around 2-6 working days to obtain GST registration.
